چکیده
OELLERMANN, R. A. _Plaque formation by African horsesickness virus and characterization of its RNA. Ondmtepoort j. vet. Ru. (1970), 37 (2), 137144. A method of plaque assay for African horsesickness virus (AHSV) is described. Three cell lines were tested of which BHK21 was the most satisfactory. With an increase in Actinomycin D concentration, an increased inhibition of infective virus production was observed. Sucrose gradient sedimentation analysis of AHSV-RNA revealed at least six components. Eight components were resolved by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The molecular weight of the components varied from 0.5 x 106 to 2.8 x 106 daltons, with a total molecular weight estimate of 1.5 x 107 daltons for 10 segments in the viral genome. The significance of the relationship between AHSV, bluetongue virus and reovirus is discussed.

Detection of African horsesickness virus and discrimination between two equine orbivirus serogroups by reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction.
A reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), based on the gene encoding the NS2 protein of African horsesickness virus (AHSV), was developed for rapid serogroup-specific detection of AHSV. The specificity of RT-PCR products was confirmed by Southern blot hybridization using a radioactively labelled cDNA probe specific for the NS2 gene. This RT-PCR could discriminate between all k...

Detection of African horsesickness virus (AHSV) by three different reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) based methods were compared. Primers were complementary to sequences contained in the gene encoding non-structural protein 2 of AHSV serotype 3. All three assays were group-specific for AHSV and detected all nine serotypes but not related orbiviruses. A dilution range was ...
